Energy

Each one of us can make a difference
every day through simple steps we can take through our lifestyle choices
and personal practices, from the food we eat and products we purchase to
the energy we consume.
"Cooking is an energy intensive
activity which contributes disproportionately to evening peak energy demand.
Surveys suggest that average household cooking consumes 600 to 700 kWh
per year for electric equipment (over 10% of average annual electricity
consumption), or around 5 GJ if gas is used (almost 15% of average annual
gas consumption). User behavior is a major factor influencing cooking
energy use. Apart from decisions about the type of meal to be cooked, actions
such as leaving lids off and boiling hard instead of simmering can easily
double energy consumption. Melting fat for deep frying, boiling large quantities
of water for meals such as pasta can also consume large amounts of energy.
Did you know that to pre-heat
your oven, it takes the same amount of energy to light up 40, 100 watt
light bulbs?
Are You Aware that the Average
U.S. Household Produces More than 35,000 Pounds of Greenhouse Gas Every
Year? 27 % of your house hold energy is consumed by the kitchen. 12% is
used by cooking alone in less than an hour. Did you know an average gas
stove is only 55% efficient and your average electric cook top is only
45% efficient? That means out of every $100.00, $45 to $55 is thrown into
the atmosphere in the form of various gases. Did you know 90% of the energy
used to cook in the oven is just heating your house?

"Green by Design"
At Saladmaster , GREEN is not simply
a color. It's a commitment to environmental responsibility in the development
of our products, processes and logistics. We have procedures in place to
minimize our environmental impact and continue to explore new opportunities
to be green by design. Our manufacturing air emissions fall beneath threshold
regulatory quantities. We emit no hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). Saladmaster’s
efforts consistently fall within federal, state, and local standards for
wastewater and solid waste treatment and disposal. Our packaging (corrugated
and liner board) utilizes a combined average of 68% - 77% recycled content.
Recycling paper and cardboard from our facilities saves 3,283 trees and
19,309 gallons of gasoline annually. Recycling our scrap steel and aluminum
saves 4,300 barrels of oil annually (according to the EPA Waste Wise formula).
The state-of-the-art lighting systems in our manufacturing and corporate
office facilities save a total of 1.5 million kilo watt hours, or 137,000
gallons of gasoline annually. Our cookware is made in the USA. Less energy
is required to deliver the product to our customers in the USA vs. shipping
and delivering product imported from other countries and, thus, reduces
our carbon imprint on the environment.
Through
normal activities of using electricity, heating a home and driving a car,
each of us is responsible for adding carbon dioxide and other emissions
into the air we all breathe. Annually, the activities of an average U.S.
household can result in more than 35,000 pounds of CO2 and other pollutants.
Carbon dioxide emissions are the leading cause of global climate change.
What
Can One Person Do?
You
can start cooking environmentally responsible with Saladmasters cooking
system, also you can offset the polluting effects of your energy use by
supporting the development of clean renewable energy. Most traditional
power generation relies on burning fossil fuel. Every time we replace existing
power with wind, solar or another renewable resource, your electricity
pool becomes a little greener and that benefits everyone.
Cooking Green is about Cooking
Consciously, with awareness of your actions and the impact they have on
your food, your health and the health of life around you and the sustainability
of our planet.
Sustainability, in the most
basic terms, is the ability to provide for the needs of the population
in an environmentally and socially responsible manner, in this generation
and for generations to come.
Saladmaster’s
patented unique semi-vacuum and superior 316TI Surgical Stainless Steel
with Titanium metal creates perfect heat. The heat is transmitted throughout
- surrounding, tenderizing and cooking evenly in a semi-vacuum. This engineering
feature enables food to be cooked at lower settings and in less time than
traditional cookware, increasing energy savings up to 70%. Retaining over
90% of the Nutrients in your cooked food. This cooking system enables you
to cook without water or oil, using very low temperatures.
Energy
Conserving Tips
Did you
know that every time you lift the cover while cooking, you can lose at
least 50º in temperature and waste energy? All our lids in our cookware
sets come with the vapo valve when the temperature inside our cookware
reaches the desired temperature for preparing foods without harming the
nutritional aspects (187°F), our patented Vapo Valve begins to click,
alerting you to turn down the temperature. As a result you retain 90% and
above of the vitamins & minerals in your cooked foods. No more guessing,
pot watching & stirring plus you save ENERGY. Our patented cookware
creates a semi-vacuum which locks in all the aroma, moisture and most importantly,
heat inside your cookware. By keeping all this energy and moisture locked
in, your foods will cook faster and naturally be juicier and tender. Our
cookware is engineered to cook on lower heat greatly increasing energy
efficiency and lowering your monthly energy bill.Because of our unique
semi-vacuum, and even heat conduction design, you can actually
bake
on top of the stove.

GREEN LIVING TIPS:
Shop
Online: Online shopping also saves
energy, resulting in enormous environmental benefits.
Drive
less: Almost one third of the carbon
dioxide produced in the United States comes from our cars, trucks and airplanes.
Start a carpool with your coworkers or classmates. Walk, run or ride your
bicycle.
Say
NO to Paper or Plastic:
Bring Your
Own Bag, 380 billion plastic bags are used annually in the United States,
each bag is used for about 25 minutes, less than 3% are recycled and they
never biodegrade. In fact, they photodegrade, which means they break down
into smaller and smaller toxic bits that contaminate soil, pollute waterways
and enter our food-chain. Paper bags are not a good option either - we
cut down 14 million trees per year to produce 10 billion paper bags for
grocery stores in the US.
Reduce
use of plastic bottles: In the U.S.
alone, we use 1.5 million barrels of oil each year just to create
plastic water bottles. We collectively use billions of plastic water
bottles each day in our country and only about 12% are recycled.
The rest end up in our landfills, or worse, littering our roads, rivers
and waterways. In fact, every plastic water bottle ever produced is still
in our environment today. Buy a reusable bottle, and bring your water.
Just say "no” to plastic bottles.
Replace
your light bulbs: Replace your regular
incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent (CFL) ones. CFL's
use 60-75% less energy than a regular bulb.
Reduce,
reuse & recycle:
Reducing the amount
of waste you generate is the first and most important step. Next
in line comes finding a good reuse for items and finally, recycling.
Stop
using toxic chemicals: When we use
traditional cleaning products in our home, the chemicals contaminate the
air and remain on surfaces. We then absorb these chemicals through
our skin. In addition, those harsh chemicals are washed down the
sink, entering the waste stream and contaminating ground water. Did
you know that household cleaners are not even required to disclose their
ingredients.Use safer products, such as baking soda, lemon juice and white
vinegar instead of harsher chemical cleaners.
Use less water: Don't run the water
when you brush your teeth - save 8 gallons of water. Toilets are the largest
water consumer in your house. Install a low-flow toilet dam or displacement
device (like a filled bottle) to cut down on the amount of water needed
for each flushing - reduce water use by 20%. Only wash a full load - of
laundry or dishes that is. Don't over water your lawn. As a general
rule, lawns only need watering every 5-7 days in the summer. A hearty rain
eliminates the need for watering for as long as two weeks. Water lawns
during the early morning hours when temperatures and wind speed are the
lowest. This reduces losses from evaporation.
Conserve
Energy Set your thermostat as low as
is comfortable in the winter and as high as is comfortable in the summer.
Clean or replace filters - on furnaces once a month or as needed.
Use Sun Energy, the sun produces more energy in one second that all the
fossil fuels we burn in the course of a year in the U.S. Solar energy
technology is growing by leaps and bounds. Solar panels for your
home are great, but there are a number of smaller budget solar items available
today (such as garden lights, backpacks) that make solar energy affordable
for just about everyone. Look for energy star appliances - If you need
to replace an appliance, look for the energy star label. These products
perform at the same or better level than standard products and use significantly
less energy.
Compute
smarter Did you know that the average
desktop PC wastes half the power it consumes? The majority of this unused
energy is wasted as heat and never reaches the processor, memory, disks,
or other components. As a result, offices, homes, and data centers have
increased demands on air conditioning which in turn increases energy costs.
Stop Junk Mail Yes, it annoying, but
it also wastes an incredible amount of paper, energy, and time. Did you
know more than 100 million trees are destroyed each year to produce junk
mail? About 28 billion gallons of water are also wasted, and the energy
used to produce and dispose of junk mail exceeds 2.8 million cars.
An average of 41 pounds of junk mail is sent to every adult citizen of
the U.S. each year. Approximately 44% of this mail goes into a landfill
unopened.
Why
Recycle?
We know
recycling is beneficial, but here are some facts (some may be startling)
that may make you think seriously about the importance of recycling.
1. About
40% of the waste in the U.S. is paper, but nationwide we only recycle about
25-30% of our paper waste.
2. Americans
throw away close to the equivalent of 30 million trees a year, just from
newsprint alone.
3. In America
we discard enough motor oil per year to fill 120 supertankers.
4. In the
United States right now, landfills are filling up and closing at the rate
of approximately 2 a day.
5. By recycling
an aluminum can per day we can save enough energy to operate a television
set for 3 hours.
6. A glass
bottle thrown away today will still be there in the year 3000.
7. In the
United States, one in every six trucks in a garbage truck.
8. You would
be able to circle the earth 436 times per year with the Styrofoam cups
that are used in the United States.
These statistics
are accurate and valid; they help to illustrate the importance of recycling
in the United States. Start taking an active role in helping your community
recycle and better your environment and prevent global warming.
